Two to three times each year, the Amherst area is home to dances which provide experienced dancers with a unique venue. These Advanced Dances feature nationally-known callers and top-notch English country dance musicians, and allow experienced dancers to dance together with minimal teaching. Akin to a ball without the elaborate costuming, these dances bring together dancers from throughout New England and beyond. The dances span the gamut from classic ECD favorites to newly composed dances by contemporary choreographers, selected to provide both challenge and dancing delight.

Advanced Dances are generally held in the early summer and fall each year at Munson Library in South Amherst, Mass. They are scheduled for Sunday afternoons (1:30-4:30) to facilitate travel for out-of-towners. A leisurely refreshment break adds to the conviviality of the afternoon and supplies energy for more dancing!

For additional dancing enjoyment, the Advanced Dances are usually held the day after the 2nd Saturday or Pleasures of the Town (3rd Saturday) dance. Many experienced dancers spend the weekend in Amherst, arriving in time for the dance on Saturday evening, staying the night in one of the area's charming bed-and-breakfasts and then joining us for Sunday afternoon dancing before returning home.
